Child Development and protection Sri Lanka is a voluntary Social Movement that attempts to optimize opportunities for the less fortunate and disadvantaged children in our midst to realize their full potential while middle and upper income groups have access to good education, social and health facilities, those from the less advantaged sector are not as fortunate in addition many children dropout even before completing primary education or perform poorly for a variety of reasons poor parental concern low expectation malnutrition poor health inadequate education facilities, and non-conducive home –environment.

School dropouts, frustrated by unemployment and lack of directions often become anti-social elements and drug addict. CDPO Sri Lanka believe that this potentially serious problems can be ameliorated if underprivileged children in our community are provide with additional social facilities health and nutritional support and value orientations .CDPO Sri Lanka believe that the government alone cannot shoulder this enormous burden, individual and voluntary organizations ought to share the concern and complement the government’s efforts to assist the less privileged,

The age group between 6 to 18 years in the life of child constitutes a critical phase its psychosocial Development. It is during this period that young impressionable and malleable mind acquires the characteristics that go to make the future of Man.

Many children are fortunate to be born into good homes with caring, concerned parents who have the inclination, the will and the resources to lay a sound foundation for their optimal growth and development however many more are less fortunate and are born in the green ghettos or the rural and urban which slums are rudely oppressive to their progress.

The basic philosophy of CDPO srilankan Stems .from its conviction that of are child born into and underprivileged home is to grow into any adult with self –confidence and self –esteem, imbued with the skill and desire to contribute to the growth and development of society, of which he is an integral part, he must be .nurtured during the critical period of this life, between the ages of 6 to 18 years.

Meaning of Shelter

We give protection & shelter to those children who have lost their parent(s) as well as if a child is affected physically or mentally we give them a helping hand. A shelter is something that protects them from the sun and rain, in that manner we give shelter to those children who are affected in disasters and other calamities. Our main aim is to protect & shelter those who are vulnerable.


It signifies that we will be a helping hand to those in need


We will be working with the government as well as other organizations and beneficiaries.

Our Mission


The mission of the Child Development & Protection Organizations is to provide active support to children, without racial, religious, political, cultural or gender-based discrimination. To this end the organizations develop and implement projects designed to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged children in their own environment (including families and communities). The Convention on the Rights of the Child constitutes the conceptual framework guiding the activities of the Child Development & Protection.

In their own countries and regions, the Child Development & Protection organizations bring to the attention of the public, including children and young people, the causes of underdevelopment, together with the rights of the child. They mobilize political will and advocate appropriate governmental policies. They undertake fund raising activities to achieve their objectives.

The Child Development & Protection Organization re-insures coordination among the Child Development & Protection Organizations and representation at an international and European level. The CDPO holds a consultative status with the United Nations, UNICEF, the ILO ,Probation and the DCPU Council of Sri Lanka . It also works in collaboration with other networks pursuing similar aims.
